A wall mirror is the perfect way to make a room look more spacious. They can be hung anywhere in the room, but they should not be placed next to windows since you will see your reflection in the mirror and it would make the room seem cluttered.
It’s best to place them opposite a window or along one of the walls. You can always choose to have two wall mirrors facing each other, like we did with our bedroom wall mirrors, which makes for an interesting display of light when they are both reflecting and creating an optical illusion.
The mirrored surface of a wall mirror creates great reflections that bounce back light into the room, making it appear brighter overall and making it seem larger than it really is.
This is especially useful if you are working with a smaller space such as a studio apartment or small bedroom.
How Do You Choose Between All of the Different Styles?
There are many different styles of framed or frameless wall mirrors on the market today that will fit well with any decorating style. We suggest choosing something that suits your tastes and fits your design aesthetic.
Then match it up to your existing furniture and keep things consistent throughout your home. So if you already have furniture with a certain theme, you can choose a mirror that fits that same style as well.
If you are going for a more contemporary look, we suggest choosing something clean and simple. You can usually find these types of mirrors in large chain stores like Ikea.
If you have an eclectic style or want to mix things up with different types of wall mirrors, there are many shops online that will sell multiple styles and designs at one time. All Modern is a great example of this!
What Colors Should I Choose?
This depends on your existing furniture and decorating style and what colors you would like to accentuate in your space. If the walls are painted in one color, we suggest choosing a mirror that has somewhat of the same tonality so it doesn’t clash with the wall color behind it.
This is also important if your furniture is already the main focus of the room since it should be complimenting your existing pieces instead of distracting from them.
A great way to do this is by choosing something metallic such as gold or silver that will reflect the light in your room and add a little shine to your space.
If you are working with a lot of different colors, or if you want to add more color to the room, then we suggest going brighter and bolder with the color of your mirror.
For example, if you have lots of pink or coral in the room, then try choosing a mirrored surface that has a similar hue in it. This will create unity between the mirror and existing decor in your room.
What Size Should I Choose?
The size of your wall mirror will depend on how big you want it to be. Most mirrors come in different sizes from small squares or rectangles all the way up to large floor length mirrors for an entryway or foyer area.
If you are working with a smaller space such as a closet or bathroom, then we suggest choosing something small like a square wall mirror that is no bigger than 24 inches wide by 24 inches tall. They can even be found at home stores like Ikea and they don’t cost too much either!
If you are looking for something larger that takes up more visual space, we recommend choosing something around 36 inches wide by 48 inches tall so it doesn’t take up too much room on the wall.
