Are Dyson Electric Fans worth buying?

Dyson Electric Fan

This is a pretty common question, and there are a lot of factors to consider. I don’t think we’ve ever had a client who manufactures or markets an electric fan (or air conditioner) that is happy with their Dyson fans. I haven’t had one offer to send me one for free!

There are reasons for this. Firstly, the parts involved in electric fans, and especially in air conditioners, are fairly complex and require a lot of skill to manufacture well.

That means that the best manufacturers are likely to have more expensive products – but hopefully ones which will last longer and use less power than those of cheaper competitors.

There is very little difference between cheap fans and expensive ones in terms of how they look, but there can be quite a big difference in real performance – especially if you’re comparing the best with the worst.

Of course Dyson fans are more expensive than those made by other manufacturers – they have to be if they want to make any profit at all.

They have excellent marketing skills which can convince people that they are getting good value for money, but I don’t think many people would really get that impression if they were comparing two sets of fans side-by-side.

I recommend avoiding Dyson fans unless you really like their style or brand image as much as their performance. This is usually not difficult!
