Cracks in your windshield can be a major distraction while driving. It can also make it difficult to see clearly out of your windshield.
Luckily, you don’t have to live with cracks in your windshield. You can easily repair them by following these simple steps:
Clean the area of the crack using a razor blade or scraper. This will remove any dirt or other particles that may be causing the crack to spread.
Apply a small amount of adhesive to the area surrounding the crack using a brush or applicator bottle. Use enough adhesive to fill in the crack and keep it from spreading, but not so much that it is visible on the outside of your windshield.
Use a hairdryer to dry the adhesive and harden it so that it will be strong enough to hold together when you press on it with pressure from your fingers.
This is very important as you want your repair job to last for as long as possible, but you don’t want it too hard so that it causes any future damage.
Allow time for the adhesive to dry completely before applying pressure to it with your fingers or other tools such as an old credit card or ruler if you need something stiffer than your fingers. This will keep the crack from spreading further.
Apply a thin layer of urethane or other clear coat to the area surrounding the crack to help protect it from future damage.
This repair method is perfect for windshield cracks that are not too deep. If your crack is deeper than about 1/8 of an inch, you may want to consider a different repair method.
These repairs can sometimes work for cracks that are deeper, but they will usually be less effective and can even cause further damage to your windshield. If you have a crack that is too deep, contact a company like Autoglass Replacement Company today.
