Start the Year Off Right – Clear the Clutter

Published by Handy Work on

The best way to start the year off right is by clearing clutter. Our homes should be a place of peace and comfort, not stress and chaos. And that’s exactly what clutter creates – stress and chaos!

There are many benefits you can enjoy after clearing clutter at your house.

Better Sleep

You will sleep better because your mind won’t be racing about all the things you have to do tomorrow (or even later today).

More Relax

You will feel more relaxed when spending time in your home (versus constantly looking for something or wishing you had time to clean up).

Feel More Productive

You will feel more productive because you won’t be wasting time looking for things that don’t belong where they are now. Plus, it’s easier to find what you need when it’s put away properly. When stuff is out of place, we waste energy trying to figure out where it goes.

More Confidence

You will feel more confident because you will be able to accomplish what you set out to do in the first place.

Save Money

You will save money because you won’t have to buy more stuff. This is especially true if you are a shopaholic and/or have kids. And if you do shop, you will be able to find what you need without spending extra time looking for it (see #3).

Free Time

You will have more time on your hands because less time will be spent cleaning up after yourself. The less clutter, the less work it takes to clean. If your home is cluttered, cleaning takes longer and is more difficult than it needs to be!

Feel Good About Yourself

You will feel good about yourself because your home is a reflection of who you are and how much respect you have for yourself. A cluttered home sends the message that we don’t care about ourselves or our homes – or both!

It also sends the message that we can’t manage our stuff and are unable to make good decisions when it comes to purchasing things we don’t need or won’t use. If this sounds like you, there’s hope!

Now that I’ve listed all the benefits of having a clutter-free home, it’s time to figure out how to get there. This is easier said than done!

If you have tried this before and failed, it’s probably because you tried it on your own and didn’t have the right tools or support. So if you want to succeed this time, then enlist help from others who have done it successfully.

That way, they can show you how clearing clutter looks like and give you some tips on how to do it yourself. Or hire a professional organizer (such as myself) who can come into your home and help you with the process!

It’s not that hard, but it does take some time – usually several days or even weeks depending on how much stuff there is to organize. And don’t forget about these things called kids! There is a good chance they are contributing their fair share of clutter too!
