What is PVC Material?
What does PVC stand for?
PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride. It is derived from a fossilized material that is called coal tar. It is an inexpensive plastic material which can be molded into different shapes and sizes.
What is PVC Material and why it is used at home?
PVC material is used in making of pipes, in most of the homes, as it is inexpensive and durable. PVC material has a long life and it can be able to withstand temperature variations as well as different weather conditions.
PVC material is highly resistant to chemicals and has good flexibility. The usage of PVC material for water supply pipes has been increasing in recent years.
It is durable and reliable and easy to maintain. It requires less maintenance and easy to install, hence it is widely used in residential buildings.
What are some appliances made of PVC material?
PVC material is be used in making of electrical appliances such as power cords, cable, extension cords and wires. These appliances are useful in providing electricity to the houses. PVC wiring helps in the easy functioning of different electrical appliances, used at home.
Is PVC safe?
PVC material is safe to use for piping, as the material used is non-toxic and free from harmful chemicals. It does not contain any harmful chemicals such as lead, which is present in other materials.
It does not release any toxic gases when heated or cooled, which makes it safe to use for plumbing purposes. PVC piping system is cost effective and durable, hence it is commonly used for residential building.
How to install PVC pipe?
There are two ways of installing PVC pipe system. The first method is by using solvent cementing process and the second method by using mechanical joints.
The solvent cementing method involves heating the pipe ends with a blowtorch or hot air gun and pouring the solvent into the joint to join two pipes together. In mechanical joint process, one can join two pipes easily by using couplings or threaded fittings.
How to identify PVC piping system?
PVC piping system is easy to identify as they are usually white in color and very flexible. The pipes can be easily identified by their smooth surface as compared to other pipe materials which have rough surface. It is easy to distinguish PVC piping system from copper pipes and iron pipes as it is lightweight and flexible material. In order to do this, one needs to examine the interior of the pipe by cracking open an end cap or take a look at the label of the pipe. When there is no label on what type of material it is made out of then read what kind of material has been used for making that particular part in your plumbing system.
