What do I need to do before installing smart home devices in Singapore?

The first thing you need to do is to register for an account with the IoT Service Platform.

If you are a normal user, you can register for a free account by downloading the registration form here and email it to this address: [email protected]. The registration form will be processed within two working days.

If you are a developer or a business, you can register for a paid account by filling in this form here. You will only be able to proceed with the registration after you have received approval from the Smart Nation and Digital Government Office.

What is the IoT Service Platform?

The IoT Service Platform is a cloud-based platform developed by the Government of Singapore to help people manage their smart homes.

Once you have registered for an account, you can use the IoT Service Platform to choose between a list of authorised smart home products available for purchase.

What kind of smart home products are available on the IoT Service Platform?

There are currently two kinds of devices available:

The water leak detection products can be used to detect water leaks in toilets, showers and basins. They are connected to your water supply. The water valve controller can be used to automatically turn off the water supply to a particular water valve in your house.

How many smart home devices can I buy?

You can purchase up to three smart home devices per account.

How much do the smart home devices cost?

The price of the smart home devices depends on the product category.

How can I buy smart home devices from the IoT Service Platform?

There are three ways to purchase smart home devices:

Option 1 – You can buy straight from the IoT Service Platform;

Option 2 – You can buy the devices from a retail store of your choice; or

Option 3 – You can buy the devices from your smart home service provider.

$10.00 registration fee.

If you choose to buy from a retail store of your choice, you will have to pay the full retail price of the smart home devices.

If you choose to buy from your smart home service provider, you will have to pay $10.00 to your provider for every smart home device that you purchase. Your provider will then purchase the smart home devices on your behalf from the IoT Service Platform.

Can I buy smart home devices at retail stores in Singapore?

You can purchase smart home devices from retail stores in Singapore but the retail price will be higher than the price at the IoT Service Platform or from your smart home service provider.

The retail price will also be higher if you use your own credit card to purchase the device.

Are there any service fees when I use the IoT Service Platform to purchase smart home devices?

Yes, there will be a service fee of $4.50 per device purchased. This fee will be collected at the point of purchase.

How do I install smart home devices in Singapore?

That depends on the kind of device you have purchased.

If you have purchased a smart home device that is connected to the water supply, you will have to do the following:

Contact SCDF to have the water supply disconnected; Ensure that the taps are off; Connect the smart home device to the water supply; Reconnect the water supply.

If you have purchased a smart home device that is connected to the electricity supply, you will have to do the following:

Contact SP Group to have the electricity supply disconnected; Ensure that the switches are off; Connect the smart home device to the electricity supply; Reconnect the electricity supply.
